What would cause my 1989 Buick Reatta to keep losing gas mileage ?. It started out in the 20's and is now at 18 mpg ?. It is just steady getting worse by the week . It has 185,000 miles on the 3.8 motor and there is no miss in engine . Yesterday I put in $10 gas and only got like 30 miles out of the $10.00 gas at $3.45 a gal . What can I check , I also used a can of injector cleaner a couple weeks ago ,didn't seem to help any . I live like 15 miles from town ,and I usually take the back roads to drive slow and try and make the gas last longer , doesn't seem to help driving slower either . Does anyone have any suggestions ?.
Someone asked if there is lots of power ?. NO there isnt ,it has been sluggish to me ever since I got it this summer. I always thought it should be faster than what it is . Should I cut off the cad. converter ?.And just run it straight to the exhaust pipe witthout the converter ?. See I am living on a fixed income of ss disability and dont have any money to get tests done or buy expensive parts . This car was donated to me by a very nice man ,bless him . But I dont know quite what to do , but I cant afford this gas mileage , Im also having trouble with brakes binding and making noises , trans is shifting wierd , first shift is slow and feels like its slipping alittle , second shift is quick and hard allmost jerks me forward sometime s . And I just had problems with dead battery , the volt guauge is jumping all over the place ,from 14.6- 13.9 every second ,yesterday I discovered the cables were loose so I tightened them and it at least will hold a charge so far ? .And when I go down
