Gascomes out front carb overflow WHILE RUNNING, but stops when I turn gas valve to off position. Then starts again when I turn it back on! Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks

sounds like you have a saturated/maladjusted carb float.
had that happen once, had to replace the carb float.
it stops leaking when you turn off the gas much like the water stops when you turn off the faucet.

can I take part of the carb loose and see the float - if so which part?

yes, there ought to be one or two screws holding the bowl onto the carb assembly.
the float will be rather obvious as it will be donut shaped.
but it could also be a stuck needle valve, too.
at this point, you may want to consider getting the shop manual.
