sport and one day whilst? ... living a lie he felt he was close to suicide.
He is gay and he went to a cliff to jump off because of the pressure of living as a secret gay man in a straight world so he came out last November and this is is BBC interview:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/rugby_union/welsh/8425335.stm
A gay man in a straight sport - this gay man is seen as better at rugby than all his straight counterparts
Does Gareth Thomas need to be seen as a hero?
He saved his own life, Man - you jerk! Did you watch the interview?
I disagree Casual.
He has set an example for literally millions of gay people and anti-gay people who will be irrevocably changed for the better by his public courage and his 'champion' attitude.
I came out in 1975 btw and I don't need him as such as an icon and I posted this BBC interview for homophobes.
Princess Jamie/Danuella:
No one has ever said - and least of all me - that simply being gay correlates to heroism but if you have the guts to watch the BBC interview you may see that - just like being black didn't make Martin Luther King a hero - his courage against his detractors did make him a hero as does - perhaps - Gareth Thomas's turn around in his own life and his advocating of the prevention of child suicides.
