i have some spaces in my backyard that were marked out with railroad ties before i bought the place. i've sprayed for weeds twice. i dug up the existing dirt in the boxes and put it to the side. i want to now put in a weed barrier (plastic?) and then put the old dirt back over that. then i want to plant and either put top soil or mulch or both on top. is this right?? do i have to cut holes in the plastic so the roots can get thru? ugh...not sure what i'm doing but giving it a go! any help is appreciated.
