I can't agree with that gashead ... I think maybe DDL's performance was one of the major failings in the film
Don't get me wrong, I think he's great, but he hammed it up too much in this film.
Other great actors have done the same in the past ... notably Jack Nicholson, Richard Burton, and even Brando ( who I adore )
The only 'great' that I can think of, who has never tried to steal the show by
over acting at some point, is Olivier
Even in Sleuth, where 'hamming it up' was part of the character, he somehow managed to retain a subtlety that was a joy to watch
