In the interest of spreading some European love, a reminder to one and all that Gainsbourg - a biopic of the legendary French poet, singer, lover (!) - is in cinemas today.

Eric Elmosnino gives a superb performance as Serge, and Joann Sfar does a great job too on his directorial debut.

This is by no means your average biopic, as there was certainly nothing remotely average about Serge. This is the man who, on live French tv, declared to fellow guest Whitney Houston that he wanted to get jiggy with her.

Definitely worth a look for all lovers of World cinema.

REALLY want to see this, I converted to the wonders of Monsieur Gainsbourg earlier this year and I'm a huge fan now, but it's not being shown anywhere remotely near me, so I'll have to wait for the DVD I think!

Dear God...is that the extent of a Daily Mail film review? And did the writer get paid for it?

The film is a bit of an oddity but worth watching if you're a fan of Gainsbourg. I enjoyed it but it would be hard to recommend it to anyone who wasn't a fan.
