G2 Vs. Samsung Vibrant

Hey I was wondering if anyone could help me with deciding on getting the Vibrant, or getting the G2. I'm not in contract anymore so i'm eligible for the 199 price, but I honestly can't decide. I use the internet on my phone pretty regularly, is there a huge difference between 3g and 4g speeds? Is the G2 flash enabled? If it is, would the vibrant get and OTA that would let it be flash enabled?

Or should I just wait atm? Any rumors about t-mobile coming out with a front facing camera soon?

~Thanks

Reasons I'm buying my wife a G2 over Vibrant:

Vibrant Pros:
- Screen type and size
- GPU/CPU

Vibrant Cons:
- No LED Indicator (blew my mind)
- Faulty GPS

G2 Pros:
- HSPA+
- LED Indicator
- Keyboard

G2 Cons:
- CPU, but benchmarks say it performs just as well as an N1

The GPS and the indicator issues is what sold me on the G2 for my wife. She also liked the keyboard on her G1 and doesn't care for the virtual one (even swype). If Samsung got off its ass every once and awhile and pushed updates properly, then I'd highly consider a Vibrant. The LED indicator is super important to me and my wife though.

I wonder how the camera on the G2 will compare to the Vibrant. The Vibrant, while not having an LED flash, seems to have compensated for it fairly well by having a low light mode.

GPS is a huge deal for me, but I heard that they were coming out with an OTA update to fix the issue on the vibrant. LED indicator isn't that big of deal for me personally, however it would be nice to have a physical keyboard again. I've had the Mytouch since last December. The vibrant has a 16g hard drive?? Thats really nice, and its picture taking capabilities are AWESOME. *Sigh* IDK which one to go for. lol

I say wait for the my touch HD. With its dual core... Aghh makes me drool

Monkey wrench time:-) :-) :-) :-)
Although the G2 is awesome n I plan on ordering it in the morning, it can't touch the Vibrant. Of course most of the G2 is still unknown and it does have a keyboard and HSDPA+ that's where the bus stops. The Vibrant guaranteed kills it in graphics, speed and the screen is no contest just like the GPU, GPS is not an issue um currently on the leaked ota and my GPS is as good as any Android phone on the market. TW vs Vanilla, once again TW has the advantage. It already has the black notification bar that about 60-70 percent of vanilla UI users install anyway. TW has so many hidden and useful add-ons that vanilla doesn't have unless its heavily modified. The LED is a non issue as well, I've had multi-colored LED notifications on my Vibrant about a week after it was released.

Taking into account that a huge portion of the G2 is unknown, I'd still go with the Vibrant because we know a few things that the G2 can't even come close to. The screen, GPU, and 16gb's of internal storage (only the iPhone has more but who cates) is the best in the business right now.

That's just my opinion with a few facts thrown in for good measure.

One more thing, the Android upgrade thing is pretty much out the window at this point. Believe it or not, there's more custom UI phones that's been upgraded to Android 2.2 than vanilla so getting updates is a none factor too. Google has already said that after gingerbread, updates will come out once a year. Also, honeycomb or whatever it ends up being called is rumored to be for tablets only.

Another vibrant user chiming in. I'm not so much of a techy so my t959 is virtually stock as it came out of the box. I have never had any GPS or home screen button issues. I also have several friends with iPhones that are amazed by the screen size and quality. I also thought that not having the led indicater would be annoying, but so far I haven't even really thought about it. When they first started leaking the pics of the g2 I almost instantly thought I was going to have buyers remorse because I jumped on the vibrant, but after comparing specs I think I'm still happier with my phone. If a physical keyboard is more important then I'd go with the g2, but if not maybe you can wait for the mthd. That seems like the phone that's going to really set the bar for T-Mobile.

I don't think anyonee is anticipating the mthd. And the g2 is an awesome piece of hardware and is better optimized so it can keep up with the 1ghz processors. My moneys on the g2 over the vibrant. No one needs a fast gpu on an android phone yet. Not like we have iphone tier games

How do u have multi colored LED notifications??

Also does anyone know exactly how much faster the G2s internet speed will be over current 3g ones? Any talk of the G2 or the mytouch HD being flash enabled? If the G2 is flash enabled I think that would be a deal breaker for me. lol

I wonder how that impacts screen burn and battery life?

I wouldn't want my screen turning on/off constantly with a partial wake lock just to say "Hey, I've got a notification".

me personally i'd wait.. because motorola rumors are said to be releasing 2.5 android devices later this year with two cameras and faster processors
http://androidandme.com/2010/09/news/motorola-and-verizon-score-gingerbread-exclusive/

also i wouldnt be surprised if htc, samsung and lg also releases 2 cameras & faster processors phones later on this year/beginning of next year

g2 is rumored to come with wifi calling which is similar to uma calling on the blackberries http://www.tmonews.com/2010/09/is-it-possible-is-uma-finally-coming-to-the-android-platform-on-t-mobile/

but the g2 will not support tethering unless you hack it
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/09/t-mobile-will-not-support-tethering-at-launch/

the vibrant will support tethering once its updated next month and may receive an ota for the wifi calling feature

It's an app that lights up a few of the screens LED so its basically a Super AMOLED notification. And I get around 13 hours of battery life and I'm a power user. As far as HSDPA+ goes, its good to have the ability to have 10-21 mbs down. You'll probably get between 7-10 but, current 3g phones can do 7 easy in the same area. I've seen a few phones get over 10 so I wouldn't worry about that.

I won't make a change until the dual cores hit home. I can do the same things with my (N1) very well from what I've seen of "newer" phones. Even then I will, remain a bit hesitant until I see marked advantages over what I have now and I'm staying vanilla. I would much rather wait for another Google (HTC) made phone,... if they should ever make another. I hear rumors afoot that they will. But its being denied.
