G1 wont power on

My g1 has been acting weird lately, it would shut off randomly on its own, but then reboot. But now this time it wont reboot. It is rooted and unlocked, and ive tried about everthing ive found all over the internet...taking the battery out, no sim card, entering recovery mode, turning it on with the camera and power buttons, nothing works. The phone isnt responding to anything and the LED wont even light up when plugged into a charger. I've searched everywhere but haven't found a solution, anyone know how to fix this as i bought it used so replacing it isnt an option.

Sounds like the power tracks on your motherboard or daughter board have broken. The two biggest causes of this are overclocking and moisture.

You didn't overclock your phone did you or run a ROM that does this automatically? Did you get it wet?

The only solution is to return it to HTC for repair. This will be free if the phone is under a year old EVEN if you bought it second hand. However HTC may need proof of original purchase date, unless they have a record of the manufacture date from your IMEI number.

Did you get the phone rooted or did you root it yourself? Do you know how to flash a rom? Do you know what rom your are using? Go to setting>about phone>mod version.

To be honest I don't know - you'd just have to call HTC and see what they say. I'm guessing that they might have a list of manufacture dates for given IMEI numbers, but that's a guess.

The phone was already rooted when i got it. i cant check what version it is since i cant turn the phone on, and im not really familiar with this phone yet, ive only had it for a week, and i had an iphone before this so im not caught up on everything for the G1 yet

If you knew what rom was on it, if you can get to recovery, you could try and reflash the rom before you do anything else. Can you get into recovery? What version recovery does the phone have?

That's why I thought it was probably corrosion of the power tracks die to heat from overclocking (don't most ROMs do this by default now?) and/or moisture.

In terms of moisture, I've heard of iPhones getting water damage purely from being in someone's pocket while exercising. But then iPhones have horribly places moisture sensors (they're right next the headphone socket) so they trigger really easily. Anyway, my point is that you don't have to go swimming with your phone to get water damage.

If you can't do anything on the phone at all, then, there's nothing you can do. I'd try calling HTC first and see what they say. They may offer to fix it for free. They may offer to fix it for a price. Either of those will probably be cheaper than buying a new phone, but I'd check on eBay just in case...

this is just kinda a weird thing, but i was leaving it sitting in a dresser while deciding what to do with it, and today i opened the drawer to get my keys and my g1 was sitting there with the home, end, etc. keys lit up... is this a good sign?
