G1 Water Damage Question

So, i managed to spill wine on my phone about a week and a half ago, and having previously spilled on it before with it magically coming back to life on it's on a few days later, i assumed it would happen again. Well, i was wrong, long story short, it bricked and after a trip to a local unauthorized 'repair shop', the phone is operable except for the touch screen, making or recieiving calls, camera, googletalk and loading gmail. (i automatically get a android.process.acore error) Would wiping it possibly restore any of these functions? Or would it be too risky?

"bricked" for lack of better words, maybe there was a way to revive it pre 'repair shop', but i'm a total newbie in the android world. And i asked about reinstalling because i had read a post about someone doing so and their missing capabilities (similar to mine) becoming functional again. The only difference is that they had reinstalled within a day or so. IDK, i'm not a techie, or anything, just throwing the question out there. What i'm just really scared of, is trying to start over with a wipe, and because those functions of the phone being inaccessible, the new installation being unable to continue and rendering a semi-useful phone into an inoperable mess.

Your instinct is dead right. If the flash memory is damaged then installing a new ROM is a really bad idea. But, to be honest, if it's damaged you're screwed anyway.

I figured as much, and thank you for confirming, I only have a few months left on my contract before i'm able to upgrade to another phone, im just grateful this happened with 3 months left, instead of 3 months in. again, thank you.
