g1 stuck on boot screen

my phone suddenly stopped working heres the issue and steps ive taken so far. when i turn it on I get a screen with red green white stripes that says boot but just sticks there. so i tried the home+power option and the screen with the ! and picture of phone comes up tried rebooting , and alt +w option but at bottom i get a meesage cant "open cache/recovery/command". please help and fyi im new to this so even if you think everyone knows to try it please tell me . thank you for the help
 
your phone is missing a rom. if you arent rooted, you need a stock rom. if youre rooted, you need a rom. im sure someone will help by posting links and instructions for you. im away from my comp, and am a little busy to look right now. good luck!
