G1 Help?

I'm really hoping my problem can be solved asap.

I have the pattern lock on my G1 and someone accidentally locked it by putting too many wrong patterns in. Now it will only let me unlock it by putting in my Google mail address and password.

The problem is, I've forgotten my Google mail account.
Does anyone know of any way I can reset this, or find out my email address?

Hi RyeRye and welcome to the AC Forums.

If you don't know your google user/password there's not a lot you can do.

You will have to factory reset your phone. You will lose absolutely everything on your phone: contacts, calendar entries, applications, paid applications, settings, high scores, etc.

As you'll need a new Google account, you will not have access to your old contacts or paid apps any more - you WILL have to pay for them again. So ONLY do this if you are 100000% sure you have forgotten your username and password.

Anything on your SD card will still be there.

1. Power off your G1.

2. Hold Home Key + End key for about 20 seconds or until you see a triangle with an exclamation point and a picture of the Google G1.

3. Open the phone to reveal the keyboard and hold down the Alt key while pressing the W key.

4. Done!

A word of warning though. If this is a stolen phone Google will have all the information they need to catch you if you do this.

Yea that is pretty much all you can do at this point is to wipe it. I LOL'd at the stolen part, but it is true, they can tack you, even if it's wiped.

Good luck on AC

they can track you if the phone is stolen? how is that possible? i bought my phone, but i'm just curious. i know people who find phones often, and although i don't know of anyone who's found a g1, it could cause some trouble is the phones can be tracked.

Depends on the scenario and what options you have set.

There are a ton of apps you can use to track your phone which can be activated by SMS, via the internet, or whenever a new SIM card is inserted. They can send location information (mobile network location, GPS, or WiFi location) to various places.

But specifically, after a wipe, consider that when the registration wizard runs the phone's location (mobile network, which can be accurate to street level), IMEI number (was that logged as stolen?), and the new google username/password are all available to Google. If you ever use that username, ever, to log on using a browser they will also have your PC's IP address and a date/time, which the police can use to get your home address from your ISP.
