G1 Getting 2.0 by end of January

Ever since Google announced Android 2.0 on the Motorola Droid, everyone has eagerly wanted a piece of the scrumptious Eclair, but the future wasn’t looking too good for faithful G1 owners. There were a few rumors stating Android 2.0 for the G1 was coming, but no release date was specified. But now, according to an internal T-Mobile Forum, a Moderator states that Android 2.0 for the G1 is rumored to make its way to G1 handsets by the end of January. Of course this should be taken as a grain of salt, and until there is further confirmation, this is going into the rumors column for now. Leave your thoughts and hopes in the comments!

well i was just reading extorian's posts on another thread on the reasons why g1 wasnt getting 2.x

so let the debating begin
 
right just got off the phone to t-mobile uk they have stated that all g1's will be recieving an android 2.1 update and at current there is no oficial date set but there giving guidlines as the end of january so yes this clain is true and no they definatley havnt forgotten about us good old g1 users

was customer services the lady i spoke to contacted tech support or watever department it is that deals with the updates and confirmed that "all g1's" will be recieving the update and it is currently set to be the end of january so we will see in a week however there is rumours of 2.1 for hero being pushed back to march so we will see.
as if ur in wychbold lol its a small world after all
 
i cannot wait for the update, would be fine being 2.0 not 2.1.
not as if tmobile have to do much, just put web n walk icon into android?

but also waiting for the nav to be enabled in the uk also...
G1 needs a new battery, almost struggling to get through a day now
 
Welcome to android, that's how it go around here. I learned my lesson on ota's on the long wait for 1.5. Don't take these rumors of updates serious unless its from Google and the cell provider and even when it comes from them add 6 weeks to it and itmight come out a month after that.
 
okay it's feb 1st where's my 2.0.... and it's already out-of-date, with 2.1 out. wow I'll be over here living in my little cave dwelling and my G1.
 
Please don't start clogging up the forums demanding "YOUR" 2.0. We saw enough of that with the 1.5 update. And 2.0 is not "out of date" in the least bit...If any of the versions are out of date it's 1.5 and before
 
Yes the updates RARELY happen when they say it. You want to hear it from the provider or google themselves. Like the 1.5 update for my G1 took way longer than they said it would.. but eventually it came. the Droid has been waiting for 2.1 for a month also.. but no word at all yet. I don't expect to see that till march.

The fastest update I've ever seen on Android was yesterday when Google announced they would add Multi-touch and other features to the Nexus One by update by the end of the week. That was the FIRST I'd heard anything like that. and then I got the update about 2 hours later and was jumping around my room waiting for it to load.

I don't think all updates will come that fast. I originally thought the G1 couldn't handle what 2.0 is because of the lack of onboard hardware. So we'll see what happens. Either way I think google was quick to release that cuz of Apple's rude comments. but we'll see.. Good luck. I sold my G1 for the N1 and I'm happy with it. but I hope to see you all get your update also.
