G1 data-only plans yet?

I remember reading last year that T-Mobile was looking at data only plans for the G1 for about $34.99 a month. It seems to have dropped off the radar, I'm assuming they killed the idea. With my Nexus, my G1 is sitting around gathering dust right now, and I'd like a way to set it up as a VOIP phone. Has anyone found a way to get just data on this thing? Aside from wifi that is.

That should have been it, but this morning I spoke with 2 different reps, both said I can't do that with the G1.
