Future network coverage?

I'm trying to decide what to do about phones/service in the next few months.

Is 3G coming to my area? How can I find out? If it is, when is it coming? Is there a TMO 3G plan?
 
Just go to TMO and check the coverage map. You will need to tick the box near the bottom of the map for data coverage though.

No plans have been announced for 3G as of yet. Hopefully it won't be too expensive. Currently though there is only six phones available for 3G and they aren't the best.
 
Yeah, I've been and looked over the map. No coverage in my area. My local dealer says that 3G is coming to the area and has been trying to talk me in to getting a G1/Dream (or whatever it ends up being called!) saying that 3G is coming to the area. I ain't buying it (the phone or the 3G) until I get something concrete. Anyone ever had a salesperson not tell the truth?!?!?

I'd just like to find out what is "planned" and an estimated date.

Yeah, I've been all over that... Specifically, I live about 45 minutes north of Nashville. Will Nashville be getting 3G? If so, when? How far beyond "the city" are they planning on having coverage?

Right now I don't even have EDGE (unless I "cheat" and hook to an AT&T tower... Which is what I'm on RIGHT NOW!!)

I don't see Nashville on that list...I wouldn't put that much faith in TMOs 3G yet. It's taken them this long just to get it. There was a rumor that the G1 was only going to be sold in the 3G markets...I'm not sure if I would put any faith behind those words. Anyways I don't see Nashville and 3G coming soon. I could be wrong though. I would hold off at least until it's released and wait for the kinks to be worked out.

Personally. I could care less about 3G. I'd rather have the Javelin then the Bold, Personally . ..But whatever. 3G is a joke, and Maybe we will see an EBAY listing for 3G for 10grand ..ha!
 
Yeah, but the problem is - I don't even have EDGE service. Only GPRS where I work and live. Remember dial-up internet? When I tether, I get about 1/4th of dial-up speed. When I can get on AT&T's EDGE, the speed is about 8-10 times faster. For me, 3G would make a HUGE difference!
