My sister has a good friend up in Boston. This friend broke his back as a teenager and has had problems since. He is now around 35ish.
My sister told me she talks to this friend about his back quite a bit, since she knows of my back problems. Anyway, he recently saw two top back surgeons in Boston, MA. Both doctors told him that fusions are a thing of the past and very barbaric. He said many doctors are not doing them anymore. Something about causing the back muscles to fail later in life and such.
My sister did not get the rest of the story from him as she had to end her converstation. I grew up in the Boston area which is known for top-notch doctors and was thinking of going up that way for an evaluation (I live in FL now). But an now wondering what is going on here?
It seems that many are getting fusions daily. I have heard of a "flexible fusion" so maybe that is what they are doing now? My doctors down here do not do flexible fusions and never even offered that.
Just curious if anyone lives in the Boston area and knows of any alternatives to fusions these days?
Thanks!
