Funny People

Anyone else seen the new Judd Apatow film with Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen??

I saw it this afternoon and wasn't at all impressed. It was far too long (2hrs 30mins), didn't have enough laughs and pretty pointless after about the 90min mark.

What did everyone else reckon??

I enjoyed it, but i did go into it expecting it to be less funny than the previous Apatow films due to it being more of a "dramedy" than a straight up comedy like 'The 40 Year Old Virgin' or 'Knocked Up'.

Adam Sandler was very good in it, after all the pap he's made in his career it's surprising to see that he can actually act (also see the underrated 'Reign Over Me' where he plays an 9/11 widow in a very serious role. He's excellent in it).

Out of all the Apatow films i'd say that this probably had the best overall story, but in terms of laughs it was pretty infrequent. And yes, it IS too long, but having said that i can't see what could have been cut out without it being detrimental to the story.

Go and see it, but don't expect it to be hilarious like previous Apatow films.

I saw it yesterday, I didn't hate it but it was far, far too long, and it didn't feel like it flowed together properly. It felt more like two separate stories than one long progressive story. I felt like the illness story and the girlfriend story could have been intertwined together a bit better.

It was well acted, but it kind of felt like they'd had too many ideas, and there were maybe too many sub stories that they tried to fit in, but didn't have enough time for.

Its a good film though, just not brilliant.

I liked all the little cameos though. Especially the Eminem/Ray Romano bit :D

I thought it was absolutely brilliant, but I went in pretty much knowing what to expect. I'd say it's really worth reading the article about the film and interview with Judd Apatow because I think knowing some of the background to the film and the relationships between the actors really added a lot for me.

I really enjoyed it. It was a little on the long side - a film of that length really neeRAB plot and pace to sustain it, and this doesn't really have that.

But, yes, it is remarkable for Adam Sandler's excellent performance - and Seth Rogan is pretty good, too.

I don't agree that it is unfunny, though. Many of the quips and potential jokes between the various comedians are very funny indeed, but sometimes got lost in the script, and if no one in the cinema laughs, very easy to miss.

I really enjoyed the movie, saw it in the US last month along with the Ugly Truth and this was so much better!

I thought it was an excellent film, i knew it wasnt going to be a laugh out loud experience, and considering the theme of terminal illness to begin with thought it was superb!

I finally got around to seeing this on Saturday and i really enjoyed it :D

I'm a huge fan of 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up but this can't really be compared against either of them. It was a bit on the serious side but still very funny in places and enjoyable nonetheless. The only real downside was the length, it was way too long and unjustifiably so. They could have chopped at least 20 minutes out of the first 90. We didn't get out of the cinema until about 12.30!

I seen this a few weeks back, i thought it was good. Some of the comedy moments were VERY funny. However it was too long and i kinda got bored with the Eric Bana character, i know he actually is Austrailian but he annoyed me so much with the accent lol.

Nothing like Knocked up or 40 year old vigrin but its not the same type of film
