Probably even Nixon and for sure, Bush Sr., would all be considered "liberals" by today's Republican Party standards. So just how do they think they will win any elections by going farther and farther to the right?
Yessss.... and JFK, with his easy taxation on business, his confrontation of communism in the Bay of Pigs and his "ask not what your country can do for you" statements would be considered a conservative by today's left-wing standards. What's your point?
Nixon's policy of detente would have been ridiculed as appeasement by todays Republican party. Reagan kept the Cold War, cold; todays Republican party would have derided him as weak. Bush Sr. waiting to get a UN mandate and to gather allies before entering the Gulf War - and then not even marching into Baghdad - today's Republican party would have impeached him.
