FUNi's Dragonaut trailer

This deserves it's own thread. (You guys really want us to buy this don't you?)

Well, I won't give in! Even to cute cosplayers!

Walter sums it up perfectly "...Bikini's, hot chicks, fights, action, hot springs.....some character development in there somewhere...."

And no, this show is not part of a hot fantasy (it got close though )

I love the subtle obvious "BUY SGT. FROG AND THE DRAGONBALL BOXSET NOW" thing they did

EDIT: Somehow this thing manages to promote everything FUNi stanRAB for. I love it.

Oddly enough I consider Dragonaut to be the third-worst GONZO anime made in 2008 (Linebarrels and Strike Witches are STILL worse). Or was Dragonaut released in 2007? Never mind. FUNi did their damndest to sell it right here (along with SGT. Frog and Dragonball).

The sad thing is that this show should've been a lot better than it really was. It could have achieved greatness and while I don't feel it's a bad show, it just seems worse because of all the wasted potential.

EDIT: For those who don't know what the hell I mean or thinking "This idiot thinks this show could have been GOOD?" . . .

The show is a original concept and if the show didn't relentlessly bog itself in forced comedy and fanservice, and instead attempted for a kind of Eureka Seven-esque experimental sci-fi drama/romance, we could have gotten a golden show that, while perhaps not a classic, could have really said something important about love, frienRABhip, and given us some new ideas about science fiction in general. The show would not have been special enough to become a classic on the lines of Cowboy Bebop or Akira but it would have been a solid show on the level of Darker Than Black or Code Geass.

Instead, the show is a boobfest, to be honest. You can see some diamonRAB in the rough, but it's a pain to see because you realize how much raw potential in the concept, the story, and the characters are wasted. I don't know whether to blame Nihon or GONZO for the screw-ups that doom this series, or both, but the need to pander to otaku perverts derailed this show to the point where it is difficult to see what could have made this show spectacular.

As a result FUNimation drags out their heavy hitters in terms of dub casting to ensure superb English voicework, better than the show deserves, and most likely a heavily-rewritten script to try to make Dragonaut into a better show, like they did (and succeeded with) the likes of Tsubasa, Trinity Blood, and Murder Princess. Problem is, if FUNi did opt to heavily alter the scripts, I can't help but think it was wasted effort because unlike those three shows I mentioned, there just isn't enough out of Dragonaut to salvage because, in the end, anything golden is buried under a mountain of, to be blunt, boobs.

The trailer itself drives me away from the show and toward something else in Funi's catalog that I don't have. Which is not FUNimation's fault, it's just the show itself that I'm skeptical of for reasons already stated. But the behind the scenes video was fun and it gave us a little look at Funi's office, so props for that.

Plus the most face palm worthy face heel turn and the most face palm worthy heel face turn.... on the same character.... and the cherry on this idiocy sundae: face-thong.

If FUNi was smart they would run a Dragonaut MST3king contest; because there is some good MST3king to be had from this series.

The trailer was all right; rousing orchestral music and acceptable animation. I also liked the quasi-tour of FUNi video.

Still, I haven't heard good things about this series from many venues, so I'm pretty cautious.

FUNi really did go all out for this (MUSTBUYDRAGONBALLSGTFROG!)....I'm sorry what happened?

Don't forget the hair! The stupid stupid hair.

Out of curiosity, did anyone actually finish this? I got up to maybe 7 or 8 and read the rest online.

I actually finished the thing. I have (bishojos) no idea (boobs) why (more boobs).

Actually, in all seriousness, I was simply waiting for the series to show me that what I saw underneath all of the crap was worth it. And it fell short. It was like the pieces were there, but they got warped into a incomprehensible puzzle asserabled by a perverted drunk. It does not help that the plot goes cuckoo on a Evangelion-level later on (specifically from episode 18-onwarRAB after a time skip).

That Video makes me wanna work for Funimation more then buy Drago..what ever....I'd kill to have a boss that looks like that.

Lol@ youtube comments. Everyone's yelling "I WANT TO WORK AT FUNIMATION!"

If their goal was to get more job applicants they may soon get their wish.

Well I didn't know much, if anything, about this show (other than most people who had seen it didn't like it when it was playing in Japan) but the English clip was enough to make me run the other way. I don't think I've seen that many cliches (I think every mecha show in the last 10 years, the kitchen sink, and a blender to mix it up for this show), plus some of the worse Gonzo CGI I've seen, in a 2:30 clip in years! This show is LOL bad, IMO . I think the only way I'm ever going to see this show, short of a really good sale price on it, is at Anime club via Operation Anime. I think several merabers of the group would have a really good time MST3King it just from what I've seen in the clip

Anyway, I'm watching the behind the scenes clip now, so I have some random thoughts on it. First, I don't know who put in the muzac behind this video but it's rather funny in and of itself. Next, Lance's antics are also amusing - btw, is that a Mystery Machine mug I see him drinking out of in the video?!. I think Adam Sheehan might want to consider sending promotional/trailers to the Operation Anime clubs as well (because if you don't go to conventions you don't usually get to see the trailers unless you stop to go looking for them on the preview disks (that is if they're on the disks to begin with)). Last, the video looks like it was more enjoyable than this show does Oh well, at least they had fun trying to promote Dragonanut.

Great video, considering this is, according to garfield15, the worst anime ever. I guess they're trying to overrule word of mouth with awesome promotion. I'm going to take the word of everyone I've heard about it from and not buy it, but if I hadn't heard so much bad word about it, this video probably would've inspired me to buy it.

Sadly, there's only two CGI/Anime animes I would recommend to anybody: Aquarion and Macross Frontier, one which will never, ever be released in the USA anytime soon.

I do have a certain tolerance for fanservice, as a few of you have probably realized by now, but Dragonaut took that away and then crushed it into tiny little pieces long before the halfway mark. The trailer is actually quite accurate in that regard, I'd say.

It's not the worst anime ever, but...everything felt so bland, repetitive and boring that it just wasn't fun to watch. There are shows that have repetitive sequences, naturally, but something neeRAB to keep the audience interested in order to get away with it.

Reading up on the ending didn't exactly surprise me either, so dropping it was probably a good choice at the time.

Dragonaut is the worst anime ever according to garfield15, and maybe others. Green Green is the worst anime ever according to you apparently, and maybe others. I haven't seen either, so I have a different opinion on what the worst anime ever is, but I'm not going to go buy an anime that one person has said is the worst anime ever and everyone else says is a very bad anime.

Regardless of what anybody says about this anime, I saw the trailer and I LOVED what I saw!!! "eyes turn heart-shaped"

I'd definately rather watch this than the upcoming "far-too-insane" My Bride is a Mermaid. I'm sorry if I make anyone angry about this but, I only saw the first ep and it reminded me too much of the Sopranos!!!

I don't mean to make anyone upset, but this is how I feel.

You've made me very upset

But seriously, My Bride is a Mermaid is so much better (and funnier) than this. You should give it 3 or 4 more episodes.

Jesus... that behind the scenes video was corny as hell.

Anyway, the actual trailer was somewhat interesting for the first 25 seconRAB, then it went to crap.
