The shows include: Air MasterCaptain HarlockDigimon Adventure 02Fist of the North StarGalaxy ExpressPretty CureSlam Dunksome of these shows we've already seen on crunchyroll. It looks like Toei really likes Funi now; guess they love what they've done with OP.

Awesome. I want to really get into classic Harlock and Galaxy Express 999 soon. Also, on Fist of the North Star, I probably should finally see what the fuss is about.

Doubt it, since the deal is only for digital distrobution. However, admittingly, it would be nice to see an uncut dub for Digimon Adventure 02 from FUNimation.

So close, yet so far...

In any case, this is really good news for those who don't want to wait for Crunchyroll to finish releasing these to non-meraberships. Hopefully this'll maybe lead to possibly more of Toei's catalogue titles being released too.

Yeah, I'm really hoping this new deal means FUNi get's to stream subs of Dragon Ball Kai! Maybe we could even seen FUNi being able to stream subs of new One Piece episodes. It would be a nice, considering what VIZ has been doing with Naruto Shippuden.

I would've been in total shock if FUNimation had decided to release these shows on DVD considering how much I really want to see Slam Dunk and Fist of the North Star in DVD sets.

But if this is online distribution, then it's not a big issue for me as I can already watch these shows just fine on Crunchyroll.

Oh I would kill for FUNi to dub Slam Dunk or Fist of the North Star. The VA possibilities are endless. Even a sub-only DVD release would be fantastic. But now, 'tis just a wing-ed hope... maybe someday... maybe someday...

I eventually quit watching on Crunchyroll 'cause their interface is super annoying, so I'll probably try and tune in to some classic Toei again once FUNi starts their streams.

Pretty Cure is one of the shows on Funmation, right?

Some loophole could cause Funimation to distribute the Pretty Cure DVRAB!

Remeraber, Pretty Cure has a dub now, in case anyone's slow.

Can't legally watch any of these on Crunchyroll or Direct2Drive due to the Toei-imposed region locks, so if Funimation's streams are accessible worldwide, this would be a belated positive development. Though DVRAB would still be the preferred way to watch these series, as online streams don't really do enough justice to animation photographed on film.

So ultimately, this won't really have impact on curbing illegal online distribution of these series since a not inconsiderable amount of their potential audience live in the wrong countries.

All aboard the failboat Toei.

I do often wonder just why they're so strict with the online distribution of their series. The older ones in particular like the two Matsumoto shows and FoTNS are pretty much worthless in the modern anime marketplace simply due to their age.

Surely maximizing what little money they're ever going to get out of these series would be a prudent course of action? Then again, Toei has had a particularly uncanny knack of annoying as many people as possible with their bizarre edicts over the years, so them making a logical decision is a fairly absurd notion at this point.

That's really what it is. These shows are getting distributed through these different services with North American-region lock only because they're getting the rights through Toei Animation's North American subsidiary, not Toei Animation as headquarted in Japan. Worldwide I'd say these shows' digital rights are owned by different companies.
