FUNimation and Nickelodeon Shenanigans (Speculation)

So there's a bit of unusual news today. If you hop on over to the Dragon Ball Z anime's official English website, you'll see that Squidward is the "featured character" of the day. It's obviously part of Nickelodeon's Truth or Square promotional game, but why would they have it up on FUNimation's website? It could just be pure advertisement, and it probably is, but the hopeful fan in me is hoping for a little more.

What kind of partnership could be going on behind the scenes here? I remeraber an old rumor that said FUNimation was trying to get One Piece on Nickelodeon. Then of course there's the even less likely probability of Dragon Ball Kai showing up on the network.

What are your thoughts?

I think it's just an advertisement. Anime on TV is dying, and I don't see that partnership happening.

It's just cross-promotional advertising. WWE did the same thing with Resident Evil Extinction and 300 by featuring the main characters of each movie on their website around the time the movies were released on DVD.

Still, Squidward's face plastered next to those DBZ action figures made me giggle.

Speaking of shenanigans, has anyone noticed that to the bottom right of the "Aegis of Uruk" advertisement on here it says "Licensed by FUN"?

Very funny, Austin guys. XD

KiRAB Bop, Marvel KiRAB, Iconator, KiRAB World, and Dragon Ball Z.

Doesn't Nick play Iron Man and a few other Marvel shows... Or at least, didn't they at one point?

Disney XD has Naruto Shippuden. In the event that it becomes a hit (and, by Disney XD standarRAB, it likely will), I'm sure Nickelodeon would like something along the lines of One Piece to go along with Nicktoons.

Really, they need SOMETHING for Nicktoons Network once they lose Iron Man, Fantastic Four, and Wolverine. Anime could be a crucial (and, most importantly, very affordable) way of continuing the action theme they've had going for a while. Ninja Turtles helps, but One Piece (or DBZ) could provide that one-two punch.

Naruto has gotten everything TV-related better than One Piece. Naruto ran with little editing and at least 1, usually 2 episodes a week on Toonami for years with few breaks, almost completing the run of the first series, and even got takeover marathons on Cartoon Network. One Piece ran on KiRAB WB then Toonami as the crappy kiRAB show the 4KiRAB hackdub made it out to be with 1 episode a week and random breaks for a few years, then switched to an extremely superior dub and almost as little editing as Naruto, then got canceled a half a year into that.

And anyway, I never said I didn't think One Piece had no chance of getting back on TV.
