Fully synthetic oil for Honda CBF250?

My Honda CBF 250 is almost due for its 5000km service and I just wanted to know if it would be ok to use Castrol Power1 5W-40 fully synthetic oil, now that the engine has been run in? When I spoke to the Honda mechanic he said "You can, but, you gotta be careful 'cause your clutch could slip and maybe cause glazing to the piston,cylinder". Was the mechanic just trying to sell me the more expensive HONDA GENUINE oil?
(I've used this oil In my last bike without any probs)
 
He may be right, but I would find a Honda enthusiast web site & start reading their blogs on that topic. He also could be trying to sell you more expensive oil. Until you know for sure, do what the owners manual says until you can reach a decision. No need to kill the engine prematurely. More expensive than oil I assure you.
