Full Termi 1098 on 848, who's right?

So there's been quite some discussion about this already, with some positive that they've just bolted a 1098 full Termi on to their 848.

Personally, I think this should be impossible due to the different size of the exhaust ports on each bike.

The dealers that I contacted agreed, and yet, there are those who swear that they've done it. So who is right? A sample below:

"You are correct the 1098 exhaust would not bolt directly on with out
modification.

Thank you,

Subject: Ducati 1098 Full Termignoni

Hi,

Was wondering if you could settle a bet. I've heard someone that swear he has a 1098 full termignoni system on his 848 and that he bolted it on without any problem.

I told him that it's impossible because there is a difference in size between the exhaust ports.

so who is right?

thanks for your help,"

So what does without modification mean???? What would need to be modified? I'm debating the Big bore kit for my 848, which makes it a 1040, that being said I am thinking that a more open exhaust would be beneficial as well, and that gives me an excuse to buy the new system which is freaking SWEET!

Anyone got any guesses on this??????

I'm thinking that he was referring to my post directly above his........

I have the full termi on my 848. And maybe I should have bought a 1098, I rode them both and I liked the feeling of the 848 better. But that debate is pointless now.........

From my research, the exhausts are interchangeable, with the exception being the 1098r. The slip-ons are interchangeable between all models.

edit: This information could change depending on manufacturer.

I thought the 848 and 1098 shared the same exhaust port dimensions and placement? The intake side is larger, but didn't think the exhaust changed. Wouldn't need to really just because it's a larger CC displacement.

The 1198 was revisited and I assumed it changed a bit to match the intake side, which was really needed anyway IMO, but not due souly to a relatively minor rise in CC's. Here with a race inspired design team, I usually ponder if they're improving the bike itself or homologation/sanctioning rules.

Maybe FbF were speaking just for their header flanges? All full exhausts I'm looking at, including the Akra & Arrow share part numbers as well. Anyone out there have actual port measurements of the 1098? I'm sifting through the service manuals, but I'm not seeing it.

the 848 and 1098 do share the same exhausts, you could install a 70mm termi on an 848, as I plan on installing a 70mm Leo Corsa System on my 848 with a nemisis and seeing what happens. the 1098 and 848 are the same minus pipe diameter.

the 1098r is different than the 1098 and 848 but is the same as the 1198
