Fuel additives

i just use the best gas i can find and haven't had any problems for many years with any of my bikes as far as any fuel related problems.

Since my compression is a bit higher and most all gas is crap, I use an octane boost at every fill up to keep the ping away. I'll also use Lucas to keep the upper cylinder clean and lubricated.

I've always heard Marvel Mystery Oil is simply repackaged kerosene.

And neither have I but I know say a carburetor will get ugly inside and I have sprayed them clean on a vehicle with carb and choke cleaner. And if a person were to use such a product as Chevron, Lucas or whatever, how much would you put in a tank of gas as most of those bottles treat up to 20 gallon tanks?

Marvel can be used in the gas or the oil. I would never put it in my oil, I have only used as a fuel additive. Back in the old days we would put a quart of ATF in a tank of gas for the same reason.

Here's a organic chemist's choice: I use the Chevron Techron cleaner twice a year in the bike and once a year in every vehicle. It's Consumer Reports top-rated cleaner. I also use Marvel Mystery Oil in the bike and cars once a year in the gas. The "mystery" is that the stuff gets more slippery as it heats up. Oil typically loses its lubricity as it's heated, so we change it out to maintain its heat-exchange capabilities. Marvel Mystery Oil provides top-end lubrication where typical oil won't, so it's a worthwhile additive. As far as octane booster, please, that store-bought stuff is snake oil. And it only raises your octane a few "points", meaning 0.1 - 0.3, hardly worth the bother. The EPA won't allow the good stuff since it can compromise emission sensors. But YOU can buy it at paint and chemical supply houses, it's Toluene and Xylene. Of course regular compression motors don't need an octane boost.

It is both. I only use it in the gas and only just before winter storage. I put some in the last tank of the year with some FP Plus and Stabil. In 30 years I have never had a problem with starting a bike in the spring. A little extra lubrication before storage is a good thing.
During the riding season I use FP Plus in most tanks of fuel.
