Fucking Hard Drive!!!

my 200gig hitachi deskstar has been phenomenal.

so have both of my 80g deskstars

and my maxtor 80g

and my seagate 40g and 9g scsi.

what i notice is that basically, drives work these days.
 
Yeah... I have a 120GB spinpoint as a slave... and a 80gb maxtor as my master... (all it does is hold the OS and some crap on the desktop. All my games/downloads/programs are on the spinpoint.
 
without looking at it i cant tell intireley but de-fragging is the best shot otherwise check for pop-up downloaders by getting a program called ad-aware6.0 or something like that.thats wat i got and it works extremely well.
 
#1: I know about hard drives, I am a geek, and I would NEVER touch an AOL account with a 10-foot pole...I have one, but I never use it...It's from my Dad's account, and I stopped using it years ago...I use Opera as my browser.

#2: I picked up an 80GB Western Digital, 7200 RPM, with 8MB cache, at the computer show for $67. So I'm on the road again...I'm just real lucky I have all my data on my laptop, too...If I lost my music, I would be up shit creek without a paddle.

I wanted the Seagate, but couldn't afford it...it was 70+ bucks...and no one carried the Samsung drives, which is what I really wanted, so that pissed me off.

Now, I have to upgrade my CPU, I OCed my 1.8GHz Duron to 2.0 GHz and I still can't play UT2004 at decent framerates! My Radeon 9600XT needs a juicier CPU, so there goes more money down the drain! I definitely won't be skimping on my next PC...
 
The hard drive in my laptop at work died today. Looks like it'll be a few days before they have a replacement one ready.

For those looking for a replacement drive for their desktops, CompUSA has a 250Gig 7200rpm unit for a mere $129.
 
Don't buy from CompUSA. They take fucking over the consumer to a whole new level...buy one from Newegg, or a computer show, and you will be glad you did, because they will help you fix your problem, especially Newegg. Buying a big ticket item from CompUSA is like throwing money down the drain...

It is a good idea to buy a video card from them though...when it becomes outdated, you can just chip off a capacitor and say, "It died." That's why I bought my video card from them. Wait a couple years, when my Radeon 9600XT becomes shit, I'll just break it and buy myself a new card from them.

Also, hard drives suck, hopefully someday MRAM (Magnetic RAM, which is under development) can replace hard drives. Hard drives are slow, fragile, and unreliable. They can kiss my ass...Too bad I have to use 'em.
 
I have a PC and a mac, and I gotta say PCs come with all this extra shit on them. it takes at least 7 minutes to load up my PC and the hard drives bust all the time. The fans grind against other things making the computer itself really loud.
I just got a Mac and people who like PCs generally hated macs, I used to be one of those people, but only because I had never used a mac. But really, it's a good buy at comparable prices, most people say they're really expensive but when you take a pc and put all the things like memory and speed onto it it's just as expensive as a mac. It's the easiest thing on earth to use and it's easy to hook up anywhere. Now everytime I boot up my pc I get all pissed cuz they're POS.
 
I hardly count $129 a big-ticket item. But yes, for anything else, I never purchase from CompUSA or BestBuy. They merely don't have good prices. For raw parts, i usually buy from the cheapest place that has good service. Nearly 90% of the time it's from NewEgg. They're one hell of a store.
