Fucking eyes

Well, I thought I had everything all planned out for this next year.

I was going to get fit and try to get accepted into the Highway Patrol Academy, but now it doesn't look like it's going to happen because of my fucking vision.

You can't have uncorrected vision worse than 20/125 in each eye to be accepted. When I went to the eye doctor the other day, I found out that my visual acuity in my left eye is 20/320 and in my right eye it's 20/360.

Now, they do accept applicants that have had Lasik surgery performed. There's only a couple problems with that.

1) For the severity of my correction, it's going to be about $3900 total (I missed out on a discount the local Lasik Vision Institute was having toward the end of last year which would have made it about $3000 even).

2) The more I think about Lasik, the more I read about it, and the more stories I read about people that have had their lives ruined by a fucked up Lasik procedure, the more I DON'T want to have it done. I'd rather wear glasses the rest of my life than have total uncorrectable blindness.

So I've been thinking about some other things. Like going back to school to finish up my pre-med degree. The only thing that would suck about that is that I'd have to quit my job at the horse farm (which I really enjoy for the most part) and would have to start paying board for my horse, and find a place to live. I thought about trying to sell him if I could find a good home for him, but I just don't think I could do it. I'm closer to that animal than I am most people, I don't think I could ever give him up.

But at the same time, I don't want to spend the rest of my life working two jobs just to scrape by and make ends meet.

Bah. :kickcan:

This might sound mean but, ahem. This is your only life. Don't waste it. That means that you have to put yourself before anything else in your life, even your beloved horse.

Your life is more important than your horse, no matter how wonderful an animal he is, and if you can't see yourself being fulfilled living the way you are, you've got to make the choice to sell him.

Life is hard, but would we appreciate it any other way? No, but that's the beauty of it.

Ferengi, do what's best for you. Not some chick, not an animal, not anyone. You.

I agree completely with Farceur. Horses can be expensive. I know this, I grew up in a family that had 4 of them. But if your horse is becoming a burden on you financially to the point where your quality of life is becoming difficult, like you need to find a friend to take him in, or sell him, like you mentioned.

Whats so bad about working two jobs if one of them is something you really enjoy and get to be around another thing you really love? Who knows, you could find something lucrative in the horse business. Have you thought about breeding? Maybe your passion for horses can lead to you opening your own ranch and doing that for the rest of your life lucratively.

You may even be able to get a government grant to do it.

I dont know man... money is less important than what you love. And are you really "scraping by" if you're heart is fulfilled? I certainly dont think you would get the same from a medical degree or even being a policeman. Those two jobs will show you some of the most awful things live has to offer.

Wouldnt you much rather give tours and horse riding lessons during the summer, and breed horses during the winter?

I would look more into why you love your horse so much and why you love the ranch so much... and i think you may be pleasantly surprised to find that you're living your dream and passion, you're just not at the top peak point of what you would like to get out of that passion.

In all things you need time. Be you a policemen a doctor or a horse farmer... you're going to have to invest in it.

Always invest in your dreams and your heart. You only live once. I'd much rather live a life eating beans and rice with hand me down clothes doing something i love, than to have all the things money can buy and be less fulfilled.
