This is partly my fault too, so that's why I put the thread here.
Monday this week, I was travelling to Estonia for a few days, visiting my father who had taken the boat there with his girlfriend the night before. This is my first trip abroad for the last ten years or so I might add. Anyway, I'm at Arlanda Airport, a good hour before check in, you know to make sure everything goes smoothly. Then, I'm standing in the check in line waiting for my turn, and I see a sign than says, have your tickets and passports or ID cards ready when you approach the counter. Instantly I get a cold shiver down my spine...I don't have a passport. When it's my turn, I ask the lady at the counter, surely I don't need a passport just to fly to Estonia right? And she replies, oh no that is correct, only ID card. So I believed her, and walked thru security check. At this point, still with a fairly good time margin till the plane was due to departure. But when I get to the boarder police the say, of course you need a passport, no exceptions there. It was 40 min until take off, what can I do am I doomed? No said the police, down the stairs, out of this building and take the transfer bus to the airport police and get a temporary passport, you might make it! So I did that, missing the transfer bus with 10 sec. Had to take a taxi that cost me about 20 dollars, get a new pass cost me about 140 dollars, take the same cab back, and made it to the plane running and they closed the doors right after I got in. It's really my fault for not thinking of getting a much cheaper regular passport earlier. But hey, I made it...finally.
