I 've had lpr for one and a half yrs now.Constant throat clearing, feeling of lump in throat on left side.Taking aciphex 2x daily. Now after a cold I've been experiencing a chronic sore throat on right side of throat every time I swallow.Almost up high near my tonsils. Went to ENT and he scoped me.Said its either acid that has reached my throat or post nasal drip aggervating throat.I feel like he wasnt even paying attention to me,cause im so nervous. When I look at my throat it looks like behind my tonsils is swollen.Has anyone ever experienced this?Im soooo frustrated. Its really affecting me.Could it be the lpr?

I have that symptom. In fact, my pain is back and up a little where it can't be seen, and I believe (in my case) it's a small ulcer caused by the lpr.

Stress makes the pain worse for me. Strangely, I also have a lump feeling on the lower left side, and the ulcer thing on the upper right. I believe it was from sleeping on my right side before I really knew what was going on. I just quit that a few days ago.

I also have the lump feeling on my left side and the upper right side hurts when I swallow. My right ear hurts when swallowing too.But Dr. says its LPR?

Dose your upper throat hurt ?I thought it was my tonsils but i guess Dr. would have seen it.I would hope so. Im starting to question Drs.I had endoscopy too.Acid reflux.Scoped and said it was a little red too.Im switching aciphex to nexium.Everyone i know who takes nexium love it.Guess i have to deal.GG

I'm near Tampa.

The ulcer was presumed to be from the LPR. The ear, probably too, but nobody ever did anything but look at it. I think I have a handle on the depression/anxiety stuff. The Dr. gave me some referrals for a GI and ENT today. He also suggested zantac, and I plan to not follow that advice at the moment. I want all of the tests done, and then I'll decide what to do. If I had GERD, I'd be more open to the meRAB, but I don't really have heartburn symptoms.

It could be the LPR. I've had a constant sore throat since February. This was a new symptom for me (had heartburn/burping before but that went away on Nexium). I also saw an ENT and he said it's the acid and to split my Nexium doses -- one in morning, one at night -- instead of one pill per day. Hasn't helped much though. I suffer with this every day. I had a 24 pH test done and it didn't even show an unusually large amount of acid. The manometry didn't show anything abnormal either. Sometimes I don't think doctors understand how much this affects our daily lives!

I think I replied in wrong spot.I replied under my name.Im not too good with computers.gg

Speaking about affecting our lives,my husband and family are running short of patients with me.Im starting to get depressed and cranky.Does your throat hurt on one side or when swallowing? Also, I hear the nexium takes two to six months before working.

Im so glad you responded to me cause I really think I was going crazy.I didnt think lpr could affect your throat for one month now.But I guess Im not the only one suffering with this. You know ,the only thing that helped mr with the throat clearing was the prilosec at night. Of course with the aciphex 2x a day.

Kassie29,I cant believe you thougt it was you tonsils too.I became so obsessed that I was constantly looking at my tonsils. And I can swear that the one that hurts looks puffy. But Dr. says its lpr too.How long did you have that for? Also,do you take nexium twice daily?I took aciphex 2x daily and prilosec at night for a few months and all other symptoms got much better. But it took four months. Also not eating for three hours before bed helps.I guess high doses of meRAB help but it takes soooo frigin long.My husband is really patient, but he doesnt understand how frustrating this is.Its always on my mind.Cause I feel it every time i swallow .But dont get tooo many opinions of Drs. It will only make you crazy. Not all Drs. know about lpr and they might waste your time with unecessary tests.I guess only if you really feel you need a second opinion. This lpr is so time consumig too.Well keep dealing.

Do you live in the broward area?I heard of a specialist whos supposed to be great with lpr?If not ,hope you got a good Dr.Well, of course the alcohol is going to affect the lpr big time. But as far as the anxiety,I suffer from it too.I take clonzapam as needed. Also wellbutrin and it helps.Hope you feel better.gg

Yep, I'm right there with ya. My LPR has been awful, awful for over 2 weeks. I mean the whole works with even feeling like food is coming up my nose. My voice is shot to hell again and I get very SOB. I don't know what to do. It's a little hard not to stress out when you feel like your throat is closing in. My worst flare in 8 months although I've had GERD/LPR for 10 yrs. Good Luck and hope everyone gets to feeling better soon.

Do u live near broward county?Know a good specialist.Of course the alcohol is gonna mess up lpr.But i hope you are getting help for the depression and anxiety.I take wellbutrin and clonzapam as needed for depression and anxiety. It does help. And i guess we are going to have to dael with these shitty symptoms.Do you take any meRAB for it?Did your Dr. say the ear and throat problems are from the lpr?Hope you grt some relief tomorrow.Good luck.gg

Did you get scoped?Doing so ,I believe they can see if you have an ulcer or not.My Dr. said ulcers in the throat are extremely rare.

GG, I totally know how you feel! This is with me almost every hour of every day too. I have had this since February -- so 7 months now. The ENT presribed Nexium 20 mg in the morning and another 20 mg before bed, and that is what I was taking. But I didn't get much relief. Then after testing with the GI doctor, he said he didn't see any evidence of acid reflux so suggested I stop the meRAB. So, I've been taking only 1 20 mg pill per day for now. I see an allergist in October and will see if he has any further answers for me. It is so frustrating. My husband is patient too, but he probably doesn't understand fully either. Like you said, every swallow is painful. There was an interesting thread on dyspepsia here today. I might try Newbie's suggestion of aloe vera juice and Digest gold, if I can find them here in a health food store. Have you tried any natural remedies??

GG, I live in Canada. My ENT seems good. He knows about LPR but the remedy seems to be just taking the Nexium. Nexium was great in taking away my initial symptoms -- heartburn, burping, pain in chest. However, it does not help my sore throat. Yes, it is sore in the upper region, and I thought it might be my tonsils too but the ENT said no. My throat was so sore yesterday and last night I called this morning for an appointment with the ENT. I have to wait until October (yep, our healthcare is free but you have to wait a looooong time). I might go see my family doctor next week and see if she can switch me from Nexium to something else. I've only ever tried Prilosec and Nexium so maybe one of the other drugs will be better for me.

Yes. The doctor called it an ulcer and that was as far as the treatment went at the time. That was about 2 years ago. I spent up until April treating my anxiety, fear, and LPR symptoms with alcohol. That didn't work very well, but I gave it a good shot. ;)

My left ear hurts, and I believe it's related. My left ear has "been involved" for quite some time. Both of my ears have popped a lot while swallowing for years.

Recently, I started losing my hearing in my left ear. It was after catching a cold, which was probably also related to the LPR. I went from being a healthy 32 year old who was never sick to a fatigued 34 year old who was always sick. Sadly, I was just starting to accept that as reality, but everything got much more serious when I could barely hear out of one ear.

So, now I'm about to get back on the doctor merry go round. (also eating better doing DGL, ACV, etc) But yes, for sure, I feel like my ear problems are related. At my last visit with my GP, he told me that my eardrums were bowed inward. I believe that's from constantly sucking mucous out of my sinuses. He asked me to start holding my nose and blowing a few times per day to try to rturn my eardrums to the normal position. I thought that sounded like a terrible idea, but I've been doing it for a few months and I think it helped. (I'm not recommending it for anyone else... I have an appt Thursday and he's going to look again.)

Kassie29,Do you have other sympyoms of lpr ,or is it just the throat thing?Because my ent also talked about allergies and post nasal drip.

GGFlorida,
I did get scoped by a GI doctor and nothing unusual was found in my stomach or esphagus. I also had the mini scope at the ENT that looks only at the throat and vocal chorRAB. It showed some inflammation but nothing that he thought looked serious. He said it's acid reflux and to stay on the Nexium. I had problems with my right ear for awhile too -- a feeling like it was full and it would pop sometimes. This has mostly gone away now. My sore throat varies -- sometimes it's only when I swallow, sometimes it's more sore on the right side, sometimes there is a lump feeling. But I do live with this every day and have since February, so you are not alone. My ENT says it should get better over time and with the meRAB.
