hello all, i am a mature male, who, for the past two years has sufferred chronic back pain.the pain feels like an electric shock that starts in the middle and centre of the back and translates down both arms and down to the fingers,it shows itself after even mild activity, ie walking, running, stairs are a big problem.i also suffer from carpal tunnel(diagnosed) and sciatica down my left leg.i have attended hospital and seen many so called experts who have sent me for two mri scans to no avail, my frustration is that the experts are now ready to write me off and send me to pain clinic.does any body have any answers or knowledge of other similar cases, please help. am at wits end:confused:

It is really frustrating when doctors write you off when you have legitimate pain. Have you taken your mri results to various doctors who are spine specialists. The electric pain definitely sounRAB like nerve pain and that is generally not a good sign. Some spine doctors are neurosurgeons and some are orthopedic surgeons who both specialize on the spine. Sometimes each specialty has a different perspective. I have been to both and found my orthopedic spine specialist to be the best fit for me. I also have a pain management doctor who works with my spine dr to coordinate treatment. The pain med doc was able to give me a shot under xray that did help me to be pain free. It is not always a permanent solution but many people are helped for months or years if the shot works for them. If the drs work together to help you then they are not just writing you off and sending you to pain management, it is just another piece of your treatment. There are several people who have posted here with good and bad luck with shots and pain management treatment. It worked for me. I hope you can be encouraged to seek out the right dr and treatment, it is out there for you!

thank you for your response pemon, my spirits have lifted slightly, will keep you posted, cheers again james
