I ordered dsl without having landline phone service and the instructions that come with the modem say just to plug into existing jack and then into my computer with the wires provided. I did this and my computer recognizes there is a LAN but won't connect to it. When I go to setup a new internet connection it says can't do it because there is no dial tone (It figures since I don't have phone service). Oh, and the IP address is wrong for the modem. Instead of being xxx.xxx.1.1 it is xxx.xxx.0.1. I called the tech service and they went over everything possible to change ip address in commandprompt but wouldn't work (oh and in commandprompt there was no default gateway, the tech guy seemed to think was important so I figure I should let u know that as well) so they sent me a new modem because they assumed there was something wrong with it. Now the new one is doing the the same exact thing. What should I do about this??? Any suggestions?
