This is the one that is the most expensive film made so far in Brazil? I've been wanting to see this for ages. It's causing a bit of trouble over there too.

It's meant to be The most expensive Brazilian film ever made at $6million, compared to about $3M i believe City of God cost.

Seems to have been money well spent as it's averaging 8.2/10 on IMDb. Can't find it mentioned on any of major chain cinema sites yet even though it's out next Friday My local indie cinema said they'll be showing it in Sept at least

Seen it already with my Brazilian partner. It's very good but the structure is a bit odd and it doesn't have the narrative flow of City of God. However it did very well in Brazil - probably because it is largely anti police as indeed are many Brazilians...

Gotta love those Brazilian beats! Some great music on this Elite Squad - Unofficial Trailer a fan made.

Unfortunately I don't know any Brazilians to get their opinion (hopefully be some at cinema!) but I read that in some reviews the movie is criticized for in fact portraying the Bope in too good a light:
