cbr 250 to 1098/s? whoa
hmmm comparatively speaking, that would be like stepping from a hyundai hatch back to a v8 supercar!

yeah, you are the master at the control of machine,( the machine being a finely crafted and responsive piece of automotive weaponry to say the least) but, in the hands of a moderately experienced rider, i kinda feel that this machine is gonna be the dominant factor.

My tiny little opinion in the 848vs1098 debate,is that the 1098 has the personality traits of an angry, skitzophrenic child and the 848 is its more demure and pliable, user friendly sibling.
And probably the more sensible transitional step to take....(besides you can get the red one and change stickers, put aftermarket exhaust on and pretend it a 1098!!!lol)
Your current and proposed machines are a world apart in torque, response, and power delivery! im kinda of the mind that perhaps a larger sized 2 valve ducati thrown in between for a while would be a place to build riding skills....specially round town, which the 1098 will not enjoy!!
Im siting from my own 25 years of riding tho, and acknowledge fully that all outcomes depend on your riding needs/capabilities/style....(and insurance premiums)
test riding for yourself is the only sure way to determine your final decision......
cheers and welcome to a whole new world of funfunfun!

That's no true the 1098 is a easy bike to ride sounds like you got your head screwed on right you will be fine ,the dry clutch ain't no big deal I find it very easy to use if you get a 848 you will want a 1098 soon enough like you stated so by pass that idea.

Actually with all this talk about the 1098 has too much power get a 848 then upgrade I took a new BMW 450 enduro for a couple of days riding apparently has two different maps one with all the hp another with much less for the rider who is a bit of a newby thought it was a great idea would save anyone from having to buy a 848.

You know how to ride right??
Get what ever you want you only live once and why go out and buy somthing bigger.

I perfer the 748,749,848 bikes over the 916,999,1098s because I can really ride to the edge of my limits with confidance over the larger bikes.

Thanks all, I am taking my 1098S home on Wednesday, cannot wait!!

It will be a long 1st drive from Dublin to Galway - 130 Miles.

I was gonna go for black, but went for the red instead.

You guys really helped ultimately it is up to me to drive like a sane person.

Enjoy your new toy, I think you made the right decision, the 1098 is a great looking bike that sounds and handles like nothing else. Lets see some pictures of the new "Kid"

I guess by the time you get home it's time to drive back to the dealer for the 1st service (600miles)

Some say it's important some say it's not. When running up the first 600 miles alter your throttle input. Don't run long periods at the same speed. I'm relatively certain that the owner's manual states this. BTW Congrats!!!
