I wasn't sure how to state my question or even what my question is exactly but ...here:
So the other day my friend was telling me about this church that she's been to that her mother frequents about 4 times a week. Her mother has apparently become obsessed with her religion and her church to a point where it's unbearable at times.
But the big issue is that aside from the donation basket that gets passed around daily, her church takes a look at her income and tells her that if she wants to be considered a true believer in the eyes of god she has to donate a certain amount of money, based on the amount she makes. She takes care of a child and a teen and is now dishing out sssooooooo much money to the church that she now has to skimp on some of her bills at home. it has put my friend in a tight spot. her mom doesn't listen to her when she asks about it and tells her it's her duty to give that much money and she wont budge.
I know she is doing it out of her own will but is it legal for a community church to ask for personal papers like that? is it considered a cult? Side not: the one time my friend saw the church and people, she says the priest looked really wealthy, decked out in a nice suit and fine jewelry, and that he drives a nice car....
is there anyway to prove it is a scam or is it just up to the person to snap out of it on their own?
Thanks in advance
