A friend of mine wants my vacation visit to be kept a secret from his other friends and though I am the one doing the traveling, I feel that kind of decision should have been left up to me. Frankly, I am uncomfortable with the idea of it being kept a surprise because it would not be a "surprise" to any of his friends, but two of them which I have met before. I don't feel it would be a big deal for them to be all "surprised" about it. I also don't feel it would be a "surprise" for anyone else because none of the other friends know me.
Airfare and tickets for some shows have already been booked and so I cannot cancel now without just plain losing a load of money. How should I go about politely asking him why he refuses to tell his friends about my visit? Should I tell the two friends that I already have met, so that SOMEONE knows I'm coming? Again, I feel that since I am the one traveling, it should have been my decision on whether or not to keep my week-long visit a "surprise". What should I do? I am beginning to feel like I cannot trust this person since both times I've asked before about the 'why', he has danced around the subject.
What is proper etiquette in this situation?
Plus, an arrangement has been made to stay at a guestroom at his house to cut costs of a hotel stay . . . which is also why I'm beginning to feel uncomfortable with all this 'secret' business.
