I have a composition due tomorrow about the French vs. American schools and need this translated because the online translation is messing everything up.
Also if any of my composition is incorrect can you please help me? I am new to french and english and it is very hard for me.
Thank you,
Liz
I imagine the life of a student in France to be very interesting. I picture everyone on scooters going to parties, art museums, fashion shows, and fancy restaurants. I imagine the French student being very intelligent and school being very easy for them. After reading about the educational system and culture my idea is definitely altered.
Most French students live with their parents so they are saving money. This probably means that their parents are keeping them inline while attending school and can still punish them if they do badly. They are also spending less money to attend college because the educational system is funded by the government. The American students on the other hand go away to college and live in expensive apartments paying expensive tuitions on their own.
I don’t know how I feel about each school specializing in a certain subject because you never get to change your mind. Since I have been in college I have changed majors three times. I wanted to be a lawyer when I first graduated high school because of the money, but realized that it was not for me. A French student doesn’t get that option, whatever they choose when they graduate high school is what they are stuck with, unless they completely drop out of their college. There is a lot of competition in the French school systems but competition isn’t completely ruled out in the United States either. I don’t think that the difficulty levels of the courses offered in France are that much different than in the United States. I believe it depends on the subject area just as anything else.
I prefer to attend the colleges in the United States mainly because I am very indecisive and don’t believe I would be able to stick to one subject for the rest of my life. I do like that education is paid for by the government in France and French students only have to pay one hundred to two hundred euros per year but I do not think it is worth it for me. Although, I would like to temporarily try studying in France for the life experience. Maybe I would end up preferring it after I tried it.
These are the directions:
Describe the advantages and disadvantages of both educational systems, namely:
- the system for entering university or college
- major/subject choices and course difficulty
- the cost
- the daily life of a student
Which system do you prefer? Why?
