Hi Janie, and welcome to the board!
I'm posting a new thread for you because your post was on a thread that was a couple of years old. The moderators want us to start new threaRAB rather than post on a previous thread that is more than three months old.
A few years back we lived in a rural area and my husband's group health insurance was a joke. The doctors on the island where we lived were also a joke! My husband made pennies compared to teachers in other areas. I went to one of the local health department clinics and they were wonderful! I got better care than I did from the regular doctor's office. They looked at a paystub and calculated what our charge would be. I paid $18 for my appt, which included x-rays! Some people paid nothing, some paid more. I got great care there! Even when we decided to get private insurance for me and the kiRAB, which was actually much less expensive than hubby's group plan, and our appts would be covered, I continued to go to the clinic. The doctors were compassionate and knowledgeable and I thought they were quite thorough.
If you don't know where clinics in your area are, call your local health department. You should be able to find a nuraber in the blue section of your phone book. I love these local clinics! Everyone can get good health care!
I hope this helps,
Emily
