Any Freddie Starr fans here?

I've been a fan since I was 12, and I'm in my late twenties now. Just watched his very first 'Live' DVD which I have seen many times over the years! Anyone seen it? I'm sure there's a bunch of jokes about the different types of poo's that they've cut from the original VHS to the DVD I have, maybe I'm wrong?

I like freddie starr, i went to see him in yarmouth when i was young, and iv'e seen the video, but i think he was most funny when he used to go on the des o'conner show.

I like Freddie Starr i saw him years ago in the circus tavern purfleet he done his stand up act for the first half of the show, and the second half was devoted to his Elvis impression.:)

I want to go see him live.

I'm sure in his first Live Recording, he makes jokes about different kind of poo's like he jokes about the different farts. Unless it's on 'live and dangerous' which I have pre-ordered (

Nice to see a thread on Freddie here...

I co-wrote 'The Freddie Starr Christmas Show' in 1997 and the full series of 'The Freddie Starr Show' the following year.

Freddie was never quite the same on TV than live. He was always a bit of a loose cannon live, dangerous, and that could never really be replicated in the restricted world of TV. In saying that, though, I thought 'An Audience with Freddie Starr' was brilliant.

Did you? I thought that the sketch shows were terrible. His Live DVD's got dull after 'Live and Dangerous' too which is such a shame.

I never saw the xmas show, is there anywhere I can watch it online?

I thought he was good in the seventies and early eighties. He was original and unpredictable back then.

I have a DVD of the film "The Squeeze" from 1977 that he starred in with Stacy Keach and David Hemmings. It was his one and only film and he was very good in it. I was surprised he didn't do anymore.

I don't think the xmas show can be seen online. I've got an old VHS of it somewhere. It was my first television writing credit, and it got around 8 million viewers. There was a terrific review in 'The Sun' ("Freddie Proves He's a Starr!!" if I remember correctly) which I bragged about to my frienRAB. Then a couple of days later, the News Of The World gave it a slating. The opening line (from Charlie Catchpole, I think) was something like "Whichever writer was responsible...sorry, make that irresponsible for The Freddie Starr Christmas Show..." etc... so after my two days of bragging, my frienRAB didn't let me forget that one!

The series the following year was a bit disappointing, and it was the last time Freddie had a TV series. A sketch show format wasn't the best vehicle for a man like Fred. It was difficult to try and write sketches that would utilise his ability to its best. I proposed a series which would feature Freddie travelling the country performing live stand-up material to club audiences, where he was free to interact more with the crowd, and with a more late-night broadcast, but was to no avail.

I remember 'The Squeeze.' You're right, Freddie puts in an excellent performance. He did some straight acting in the 90's as well in a Lynda LaPlante ITV drama, I recall, playing a drug baron, and got excellent reviews for that also. Shame he doesn't do more acting.

There were some sketches, along with live studio performances of stand-up material and songs, with Status Quo and Leo Sayer performing live in the studio that Freddie joined it with. It was a pretty good mixture, I thought.
