I was carrying a motor on my shoulders at work, I kinda went down some stairs rather quickly. A couple of days later I started having back pain when I stood for long perioRAB of time. The majority of the pain is in my left lower back, sometimes my buttocks muscle seems to tighten up. I went to the nurse at work, she treated me for a month with cold and heat packs. Finally I went to the Dr. and had an X-Ray. I have a fractured L4 and L5 on my spine. The Dr. said it was something I was born with. Should I get a second opinion? I don't know if I believe this. Dr. Please Help!!!!

Yes, I would get an opinion from a fellowship-trained spinal specialist and I would suggest you ask to have a MRI. An X-ray will only show the bones. If you have ruptured a disc, have ligament damage, etc. it will not show up on an X-ray. Soft tissue damage will show up on a MRI.

I didn't have an MRI I had a CT scan. Without even looking at the CT scan disc, I was wondering how could he determine I had syndoliosis or something of the nature. I know he didn't see the disc because the hospital failed to send it over, but they did fax the results. He also said this is common in people who work out. So he recommended thearapy.

If you were told you have spondylolisthesis (which is a slippage of one vertebra over the top of the one beneath it), it is quite easy to see on an X-ray. It is less visible on a MRI or CT scan.
