Forgetting a lost love at university?

After I broke up with my ex a year ago, I've been seeing various women. Nothing serious, mostly flings. This past month or so, in one of my classes, I caught eyes with the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. It's not just looks though; it's her eyes, personality, outwardness, laugh and everything else that's become euphoric to me. I'm usually not shy when it comes to women, but with her, I felt introverted as hell. I had so much to say, but whenever I saw her, it all fizzled away and my heart beat a million miles per second. I asked her for help with one of my classes, which she gladly helped me with. I know her name and we've talked a few times before. For most of that semester, she ended up sitting next to me (originally, she sat on the opposite side of the classroom). On final exam day, she dropped her pencil beside me and I picked it up for her, to which she smiled, but because it was an exam, I couldn't talk to her. She completed her test, then left. And, my life hasn't felt the same since.

So, anyway, I know a friend who knows her. How would be the best way to approach her now, to ask her out, since I don't have class with her anymore? (especially from a woman's perspective). I don't want to appear creepy or anything. A few of my buddies have mentioned that I just give up on my endeavor, but I can't. My instinct tells me to follow my heart and life feels so gray without her around.

Thanks in advance!
