BUT, something I've never heard is if the US allows other nations to maintain military bases on US soil. Are there any such bases in the US, and if so, what nations have bases where?

I don't know about you majgross, but I don't get the impression that we maintain Guantanamo or Ramstein to help defend Cuba and Germany...
