FORECAST IN DETAIL

This seemingly perpetual frontal boundary in the Southeast continues to feed occasional cloud cover and moisture up our way. The pesky feature should influence our weather through at least tomorrow before more dominant high pressure takes over for Thursday. Hopefully, we’ll net out some additional rain before it’s out of here. You can’t really complain about temperatures with highs in the 80s expected to prevail all the way into the weekend.
Temperatures: Latest D.C. area temperature map. See interactive map on our Weather Wall.
Today (Tuesday): Partly to maybe mostly sunny at times this morning with more clouds returning later along with a 30% chance of mainly mid-to-late afternoon showers and storms. Highs in the low-to-mid 80s are about seasonal for this time of year or slightly cooler. Dew points in the upper 50s to low 60s keep conditions feeling generally comfortable. Light winds from the south and southeast. Confidence: Medium
Tonight: Partly cloudy with scattered evening thunderstorms and possible overnight showers (40% risk) as lows drop into the low 60s in the outer ‘burbs to upper 60s in the city. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Partly sunny with highs in the low-to-mid 80s along with a 30% risk of scattered afternoon to evening showers and storms. Light winds. Confidence: Medium
Tomorrow night: Partly cloudy with a 20% risk of early evening storms or showers. Lows range through the 60s with the warmest conditions again in the city. Light winds. Confidence: Medium
A LOOK AHEADThursday is supposed to see high pressure gain more control with sunshine and continued warm conditions. However, I’m concerned that the stalled frontal system to our south still offers a few more clouds and p.m. shower risks (will give it a 20% risk for now). Highs should again be in the low-to-mid 80s, but if we get more sun, the mid-to-upper 80s are possible. Humidity still stays low enough to be on the comfortable side. A few clouds possible Thursday night too with lows ranging mainly through the 60s again. Confidence: Low-Medium
Friday should see more high pressure overhead such that we experience mostly sunny skies as temperatures push into the mid-to-upper 80s again. We have a chance for a spot or two to touch 90, but our relative humidity remains relatively low to seasonal. Friday night is favored to be partly cloudy with lows in the 60s again. Confidence: Low-Medium
The weekend looks like a nice late-summer scenario at this point with high pressure from the north wedged in over our area. Partly to mostly sunny skies assist temperatures to reach normal or slightly warmer-than-normal conditions with mid-to-upper 80s. Confidence: Low-Medium
