Strange fault with a 1999 Ford Transit 2.5 Diesel - when trying to accelerate in 4th or 5th, at about 3/4 revs there is a surging sensation where the engine seems to pull for a couple of seconds then backs off for a second, this backing off isn't like a governer coming in, the van doesn't slow down, it just stops accelerating. Throughout this sequence, acceleration takes forever although the van does get there. However, once the van is up the revs ie about 70mph, there seems to be plenty of torque and it holds its speed well even going up hills. Any ideas ?
