I have been looking around for a pickup lately and have been trying to decide between Ford Rangers and Dodge Dakota. My neighbor was saying that Dakotas don't last as long, so that's the only thing holding me back. I've been looking at these 2 because they seem to have better gas mileage than other pickups out there.
Yes, I am in need of a pickup because I have to transport hay. I don't plan on doing much(if any) towing, so a smaller one is fine with me.
I'm trying to go through dealerships just because I've had bad luck buying privately. Right now I can only afford used, so that's what I've been looking at.
So looking around, I see Rangers between 1998-2000 models anywhere from $6,000-$8,000. Most have at least 100K miles on them, but the dealers claim they're in excellent condition.
The cheapest Dakota I've seen was a 2004 with 140K for $6,000, which i thought was way too high.
How long do these cars usually last mileage wise, assuming good care is taken? What can I expect from them?
Any information you can provide would be great.
