ford ka.when the clutch pedal is pushed down there is a rattling noise?

ford ka when the clutch pedal is depressed there is a rattling/knocking noise from the bottom of the engine,when the clutch is engaged the noise stops,anyone got any ideas and is it serious,thank you in advance people.
