FORD FOCUS ZETEC 2002 (52) 1.6 DODGY TEMPERATURE GAUGE..OR ISIT?

The car runs properly no problem at all. the coolant level is perfect, the car is mechanically sound, but after say about 40-45 Min's of drive the temperature gauge goes up when i'm stopping in traffic and then comes back to the middle when i speed up. i even left the car running at nearly 3 Rpm for about 15Min's but the temperature didn't rise. it is just randomly happens without any warnings. i really don't know what is wrong with it. how can i solve it.

im really confused please need help asap...

Thanks a lot pete, but ive checked the fans and both of them are working.

sounds as if your electric fan isnt working, you generally dont need it to work until you hit a trafic jam or the outside temperature is really high,
it might only be the sensor that triggers it into action,
get it checked, it dosnt do any good to let have your engine overheat, and will cost you in the end
