I went to look at a 2000 Ford Focus tonight and it seems in very good condition for the year. Its got 89K miles on it. I am a college student graduating in Dec and just want an economical car that is going to get me transported to my job and back and also if I want to hop in and go from Pittsburgh PA to Wheeling, WV that i can feel its a reliable enough car to do so.

The girl selling it was college-aged and not very familiar with cars she had to text message her dad most questions I asked.

The only concern was a significant vibration the car had as soon as I started it. When you drove, vibration continued. Car ran well but vibrated. She said its always vibrated and everyone asks her why does your car vibrate, and she had it looked at but they told her that it was "just because it was a 4 cylinder and thats how they run"

I dont really believe that, maybe she thought they said that or was led on by someone who doesnt know what they were doing, but I am educated enough on cars to think a vibration isnt just because it has 4 cylinders....

I emailed her tonight and asked if she could meet me at Monro Muffler sometime this week and have them look at it, my father (who lives 70 miles away from me) said it could be a motor mount, front end ball joint or a host of a few other things but it definitley wasnt "nothing"

Would YOU buy this car? What could it be?

What should I do from here

ALSO

Also, the car is blue booked at $2970 in GOOD condition. No mechanical issues.

I had originally offered them $3,000 and they were asking $3,495 OBO.

What would you offer them knowing about the vibration??
no I think focuses are decent reliable commuter cars, which is what my purpose is with it.

and why cant i ask in GLBT, does everything have to be gender related or can i just ask the community?

i dont understand any of this. I dont understand how you dont know what the problem is but feel that because blue book says is valued at 3000 dollars you would offer that. Why not find out what the problem is and the cost to repair that before offering anything. It could be alot of things and you most likely are not qualified to fix. mechanic aint cheap is what iam driving at here. I could see offering money or asking this question if we was talking a shelby cobra but a ford focus. Walk away. sorry if i sound mean. If your asking cause you think ford focus is a gay car? then i dont know you aint picking me up in it
