ford focus tune up how do I tune up my 1:8 focus?

how to tune up 1:8 zetec
I want to boost the performance of my ford focus 1:8 16v engine without blowing it up.
there is a blue fin kit but it is expensive,is there a better diy way.
 
Jamand is right. You cannot do old fashioned tweaks on a modern engine with a comptuerised Engine Management System. You can only change things like the shock absorbers (lower ones), exhaust pipe (megaphone silencer), body (door fairings, tailgate spoiler), wheels (expensive magnesium alloys and low profile tyres and also re-calibrate the speedo because it will now read 'fast), paintwork (go-faster stripes).

Without replacing the EMS chip the car won't go any faster but it'll look speedy when parked.
 
The best thing you can do is get a paxton (super charger), but if you had that kind of money you wouldn't be driving a Focus.
 
Cheap and cheerful way to get a few extra BHP is a K&N air filtre or Induction kit....they dont cost much, are easy to fit and do get a noticable power increase.
