Ford Focus Engine Coolant - book says i should use Motorcraft super plus 2000

coolant (orange)? im a girl and dad's not here to help so....
my engine coolant level is very low (well below the min level) i've checked the book and it says to use this specific stuff, Motorcraft super plus 2000 coolant (orange) according to ford specification WSS-M97 B44-D, ive to mix 50 % water & 50% coolant. Can i use something else, like a garage own make, or something? Idea's any one? I have a Ford focus 1.6 with a zetec se engine.

you don,t have to use the stuff the factory put in it unless it,s still under warranty but if the warranty is run out then you can use something else.

can top it off with water or could go to any parts store and buy a gallon and get right stuff just by asking for it

dont have to use coolant just to top off water wil do

ya you can get away with just about any coolant ,but have you cked the oil thats realy important on small motors give it a look on the dip stick its yellow and pull it up and have a rag in hand look to se if any is there and ut it back into the tube and pull it out gian look at where the xxxxx marks r if you see xxx marks you neen oil

Thank you for reading your manual! You have just avoided a terrible mistake many people make and that's *mixing antifreeze chemical types. If you were to dump in just any brand of high silicate antifreeze your coolant would soon turn into a brown muddy mess which would plug the heater core and the radiator.

If I were you, pick up a gallon of the specified 100% antifreeze from your Ford dealer and pour a cup in, then a cup of distilled water. If there is still space left repeat the above process. * Take your car to the Ford garage or any independent mechanic and have an inexpensive *cooling system pressure test done to locate the source of the coolant leak. It's better to make repairs now than when it's freezing cold outside.

You can pick up a cheap plastic two cup measuring cup at any discount store for this simple job.

You do not have to use the stuff they specify but you do have to use something that will mix with yours - not all coolants mix with one another. Ask at a reputable parts place and they should be able to show you the right one.

DO NOT USE plain water. This will reduce the corrosion inhibiter and anti freeze qualities of the coolant. When it comes to winter you could be in trouble so might as well do it right now
