Hello. I have a problem with my 2002 ford focus. Here it is. The car was in a few weeks back after code showed 3rd cylinder misfire and the dealer found that the spark plug wires needed to be replaced. The plugs had been replaced about 6 months earlier. The car is very well maintained. The problem however was not completely resolved. The car still sounds like wants to stall upon starting, vibrates and sounds high for about 10 seconds, then calms down so well can hardly hear engine at all. Yesterday however the mil came on and stayed on so today I took it back. Again it is showing the 3rd cylinder misfire but they checked the plugs and wires and they seem fine. I'm sorry I don't know the exact code. They still have the car and are trying to determine the problem. Yesterday, when my daughter and I opened the hood after driving it, there was a VERY faint smell of old radiator, (not sweet smell of antifreeze), and a faint smell of rubber. I don't see though how this corresponds with a 3rd cyn misfire so maybe no connection. Could it possibly be a defective coil pack that I got for the wires? Is that common? Or PLEASE anyone who has any ideas I would really appreciate your help. I am a grandma on retirement and do not have money to blow. By the way it is at the shop now and they did check what the code said but it does not seem to be a problem with the wires or plugs. I reinstating this because someone answered to take to shop. Thanks again, Grandma in Pittsburgh Pa.
