After a short while of driving, red lights come on , speedo drops to zero and the engine stops... will start back up after a short stop. can be very scary when traffic is behind .... Advice please. Have had a diagnostic test, Ford could find no Fault..Had the idling valve cleaned out...still same problem....This is doing my Head, somebody please help.. thanks Dave..... ..

if nothing showing on a diagnostic, i wonder do you have an alarm immobiliser fitted?, if so there may be a fault in your alarm system, ie..the fuel pump immobiliser is kicking in, cutting off fuel supply to your engine. you can test this by turning off your alarm (if you have one) with the key. try this for a day or 2. if the car runs ok, its your alarm/immobiliser

Intermittent ECU/EMU fault - sounds like the fault lies in the Engine Management Unit

Unlikely (but not impossible) for it to be the alternator - only one light would flash up - the battery light to show the alternator was at fault.

If you have loads of lights coming on suspect the EMU is at fault.

Trouble with electrics/electronics - the faults can be so hard to trace - in theory, you could even be suffering from a bad earth connection somewhere.

ask the ford dealer to to follow through with ford motor company a the diagnostic should!! have pinpointed the problem.
normally it is a faulty idle speed control valve or a vacuum leak that does that. it is possible that fuel starvation is a problem. has the car been serviced etc regularly and has the fuel filter been changed? also have the fuel breathing checked out as a high vacuum in fuel tank can affect fuel supply.
it may? also be a fault eg intermittent break in a power circuit so check out by wiggling all wires and connections you cab see ( safely) while engine is running to see if you can reproduce the cutting out . good luck.

Could well be a faulty battery or a bad connection at the battery or fusebox. Start the car & have a good tug at the wires around these areas to see if it cuts out. They use a Calcium battery which can die very quickly, or have intermittent power loss.
