Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec Engine...how does it work?

I've been wondering for a while now, if the 'Zetec' engine is just a name or an actual unique engine.

Is the 'Zetec' similar to Honda's 'Vtec' engine, where over 4500rpm the engine changes into a 'sport mode' were engine output is increased and the engine note become louder etc,

or is the 'Zetec' just a name for a Ford engine such as the Duratec Diesel?

(I am asking about a UK/European edition/engine not a US edition/engine)
